“The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth” –Morpheus

Musings

Can I just say that drinking alone is generally not a great idea? You should definitely drink with a friend, a good friend, unless you are drinking for a reason. My good friends are either far away, or asleep 10 miles up the road. They would help me out here if they knew!

I'm burning DVD's at the moment, and my heart and mind are drifting all over due to a Fait accompli.

Perhaps I should become a Monk? Naw, too ascetic, too other-worldy. But perhaps that is what I need, though. Less of this world... except I can't go far, I definitely want to be able to go to football games and dance recitals, cook out, maybe go fishing in the Gulf... So Mount Athos is probably "out", but Mount Cheaha in north Alabama might be "in". It's close, got nice trails, and I can get there in about 2 hours. And I can still live and work here. OK, glad that's settled.

BTW, I'm using an Orthodox Study Bible, and am finding the English translation of the Septuagint to be very good. Did you know that nearly all of the OT texts referenced in the NT, some 300+ out of 350+, and almost all quoted by Jesus, are near exact quotes from the Septuagint, and not the Masoretic text? That always puzzled me, and made me wonder. It's only taken me 20 years to get around to reading it for myself. Aside from having all of the books of the Bible out of order ;>)~ , with a slightly different count of the Psalms, it also has references to early Church Fathers and Orthodox scholarly texts, and commentary. I'm liking it. It has all of the books which were mostly in the canon for nearly 1500 years until Luther and his crowd demoted them, cut them out, and aligned the Protestant OT with the Masoretic Hebrew OT.

Did you know Luther wanted to be rid of exquisite books like Esther, Hebrews, James, and Revelation? No way! I wonder if our German friend might have had an encounter with the Bearded Hats? They were dogmatic hard-butts, you know. Remember St. Nick? I betcha he'd have boxed Luther's ears at the very least.

My Biblical Archaeology is rusty, needs an oil change and dusting off, but might be put to use on the origins and various tales surrounding the standardization of the Masoretic text.

Wouldn't THAT be an exciting story?
